There are many different ways to hunt elk. Previous hunters have called ours a full blown excursion where we take in everything a high elevation wilderness hunt has to offer. We will use horses to travel, camp in wall tents, and probably not see another hunter the entire trip.
Much of our hunting is conducted above timberline where the elk are abundant and the views are spectacular. Our shots/opportunities have been above 100% every year. There are excellent spot and stalk opportunities as well as calling and bugling opportunities well into the rifle seasons. The lack of hunting pressure in this area helps keep the elk visible and bugling through the middle of October.
The Colorado Division of Wildlife estimates the states elk heard at close to 300,000 animals. This hunting area is located in one of the states limited draw units, Unit 66. The limited draw units are managed for higher quality animals, giving our clients excellent opportunities for above average bulls. In addition, this permit has been hunted very lightly over the past four years, further increasing the average age of the bulls.
Our guests stay in heated canvas wall tents equipped with cots. Breakfast and dinner are always warm meals at camp and lunch is usually taken in the field. The guests will arrive the morning before the hunt and will ride by horseback to the base camp. Camps are located several miles from the roads and are only accessible by foot or horseback. The horses are used every day for traveling and packing purposes. Our horses are calm, gently, and sure-footed for even the least experienced horseman. We will travel in the breathtaking beauty of the Rocky Mountains searching for that one special trophy.
We at Lake City Outfitters will strive to make your experience with us the best it can possibly be. We are dedicated and know what it takes to make a hunt successful and enjoyable. We will provide a hunt that you will remember for a lifetime.
